How NameSync works
NameSync is a free, ad-free baby name app for couples. You each swipe through names on your own phone, and a name becomes a match only when you both like it.
- Swipe. Right on names you like, left on the ones you don’t. Every card shows the meaning, how it’s said (tap to hear it), how popular it is where you live and how old people with the name are today.
- Invite your partner. Send a link or let them scan the QR code on your screen. They swipe on their own phone, in their browser.
- Match. When you both like a name, it’s a match. Your partner’s likes reach you within a couple of swipes, so matches turn up fast.
- Pick your favorite. Quick this-or-that picks across your matches give you a shared top 3.
What makes it different
- Suggestions from real families. 180,000 sibling sets show which names parents actually put together.
- It learns your taste. Popular or unique, short or long, vintage, Irish: NameSync picks it up from your swipes, no forms.
- Popularity where you live. US (and your state), England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Canada, Australia, France or Norway.
- Hear every name. Recorded pronunciations, with auto-play as you swipe if you like.
- No labels. Names aren’t labeled by sex; Girls / Boys / Anyone is just a filter.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the best baby name app for couples?
NameSync is built for two people. Each partner swipes on their own phone, only names you both like become matches, and quick this-or-that picks turn your matches into a shared top 3. It’s free and works in any phone browser.
Is there a Tinder-style app for baby names?
Yes. In NameSync you swipe right on names you like and left on names you don’t. When you and your partner both like a name, it’s a match.
Does my partner need to download anything?
No. Send them an invite link (or let them scan the QR code on your screen) and they swipe in their own browser, on iPhone or Android.
Can my partner see the names I passed on?
No. Passes are never shared. Only names you both like show up as matches.
Is NameSync free?
Yes. NameSync is free and has no ads.
How many names are there?
62,623 names, with meanings for 10,914, pronunciation respellings and recorded audio for every common name.
How does NameSync suggest names?
From what real families named their children (180,000 sibling sets from Wikidata), what parents with your names called their kids, each name’s style and era, and what couples with similar taste liked. A taste model learns from both of your likes and passes, so suggestions aim at names you’ll both like.
Which countries’ popularity data does it use?
The US (and each state), England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Canada, Australia, France and Norway. NameSync guesses your country from your time zone, and you can change it.
Are names labeled boy or girl?
No. Girls / Boys / Anyone is only a filter, and gender-neutral names are included by default.
Can we add a name that isn’t in the list?
Yes. Add any name when you sign up or at any time with the + button, and your partner will see it too.
